I believe there are some preconceived notions about chiropractic care that prevent people from receiving the benefits of it, that will improve their quality of life if they are living with pain. We don’t want these things to stop you from coming and getting relief for your pain, so we are going to do our best to dispel some of the myths surrounding chiropractic care. Adjustments Hurt
When people think about chiropractic care they often picture jerky and unpleasant movements. They believe that adjustments hurt. We have written a blog before about gentle chiropractic, this is the standard of chiropractic care and getting an adjustment should not cause pain. Once You Start Going You Have to Keep Going I hear this all the time. People tell me, “Well I would go to a chiropractor but then once I start going I always have to go.” Somewhere in time people have started to believe that chiropractic care improves only your symptoms. Then when symptoms return you must go back to your chiropractor for them to relieve your symptoms, wash rinse repeat. This is not how chiropractic care is intended to work. We make adjustments to improve the source of your pain, which is often your alignment. This doesn’t mean you never have to see us again after a few visits. We hope you’ll feel so great you will want to come back. Your Chiropractor is “Cracking” Your Joints People refer to the sound they hear when getting adjusted as “cracking” joints. While it does sound like this is what is happening, it is not quite what is going on inside your body. The sound you hear is actually the sound of gas bubbles that are being released from your joints. Chiropractors Aren’t Real Doctors I’m sure every chiropractor has heard this one before. There is a common misconception that chiropractors are not real doctors. Admission to the (D.C.) program requires students to have earned 90 semester hours with a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade-point average. Then the graduated - D.C. degree requires 249 hours over 4 years.
